TWO fake cops have robbed an 84-year-old woman.
At 6.30pm on Monday, 23 January, two men claiming to be Police officers stole cash from an 84 year old woman at an address in Chadwell Heath.
The men were both wearing dark blue uniform. Neither wore Police hats or carried any Police equipment. One of the men wore what appeared to be a Police badge and the other showed an ID card.
Once inside the property they asked the victim where she kept her money. When she showed them, one man kept her busy while the other robbed her of her savings.
The victim thought that the suspects were Police officers who had come to check on her home security.
One suspect is described a s a white male aged 25-35 years, 5ft 8" tall of stocky build with an English accent.
The other is a white man aged 30-40 years, 6ft 2" tall of slim build.
Anyone who doubts the identity of someone claiming to be a Police Officer should close the door and dial 101.
Police Chief Superintendent Gary Buttercase said: “It is vital that we spread the word about these despicable thieves who prey on the trusting nature of our elderly and vulnerable residents. Police Officers do not cold call on members of the public.
“If you are not expecting a caller please don't let them into your home.
“A genuine caller will not mind coming back when a friend or relative can be with you.
“If they wont take no for an answer dial 999. My officers would rather attend a dozen false alarms than miss the opportunity to prevent another person from becoming a victim.”
Anyone who has information concerning this incident or the identity of the suspects should call Barking and Dagenham Police Burglary Squad on 020 3275 1045 (8am-10pm), or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
