Essex bidder pays £700 for Coronation Street cat's ashes

CoronationStreetCatA mystery Essex bidder has paid £700 for the ashes of a cat featured in the iconic opening credits of popular soap Coronation Street.

The tabby’s ashes had been valued at around £150 by auctioneer Dominic Winter but a bidding war between 11 separate bidders saw the price rocket.

The mystery bidder is a 34-year-old sales assistant from Essex who is said to be delighted to have fought off competition from other Corrie fans to win the cherished ashes.

The bidder who wished to remain anonymous said: “I was a big fan of the Show when I had the time to watch it regularly and loved to follow the Jack and Vera story lines. But it was the opening credits and watching Frisky walking along the fence to curl up on the pigeon loft that I looked forward to most and it still brings back happy memories.

“I'm looking forward to bringing Frisky home and having him and all the pictures of him in a sunlit part of my bedroom. I go to Leicester Square film premieres to get celebrity autographs but this is definitely the highlight of my collection.”

Frisky the cat, who passed away back in 2000, featured in the Coronation Street titles sequence between 1990-2001.
