Double defeat for Pirates

PIRATES’ head coach Tim Lewis felt Saturday’s 95-86 defeat at Wolverhampton Wolves could have been avoided and put it down to his side’s inexperience, though his side were well beaten at table-topping Sheffield Sharks on Monday

“On Saturday we ere in a position to win the game but then we made what I would call young mistakes,” said Lewis.

“Instead of being up by four it meant we were suddenly down by four and it came from us making three or four unforced errors which was disappointing.

“They also scored a few three pointers and the game was suddenly out of reach. We’re at home to them again on Saturday and I think it’s a game we can win.”

Wolves ended the first quarter at the weekend 22-20 in front and they led 30-28 at half-time.

Pirates found themselves six points behind at 60-54 late in the third quarter.

But a 10-0 run to end the period, with four each for Taner Adu and Samuel Toluwase, gave them a 60-64 lead.

Wolv.s took centre stage late on though and clinched a win to keep alive their hopes of making the end of season play-offs.

Randy George top scored for Pirates against his former team with 23 points while Adu added 16.

On Mond Pirates travelled to Sharks and were always second best, ending the afternoon well-beaten, 95-66.
