A plethora of female talent has been discovered in recent years but none have quite the same, attitude and summer buzz to make the same impression as Eliza Doolittle.
Having just released her debut album, she’s been getting airplay on Radio 1 for quite a while, not that Eliza has noticed it.
“I’ve never heard it!” she laughs, “I keep missing it, I’ll get in the car and put the radio on but they’ll never play it, maybe I jinx it.”
Well In2 can definitely vouch that her music has been getting played on the radio!
And if you haven’t been lucky enough to hear her tunes yet then we’re sure you will this weekend at Virgin Media’s V Festival, and Eliza can’t wait.
“Me and my boys will be singing our heart out, with some crowd participation hopefully and just having fun,” enthuses the 21-year-old.
And it won’t take much for the crowd to get involved! Once songs like ‘Pack Up’ and ‘Nobody’ kick in there will be no stopping them, although it’s a different story when it comes to her parents getting involved.
Having a piano playing Dad and singer Mum, there’s never a shortage of musical critics in the Doolittle household, however Eliza likes to trust her own judgement now when it comes to her songs.
“I used to ask their opinion but then I found out I didn’t want to know!” she laughs. “I’d play songs to them when they were finished but I was becoming too influenced by what they thought, I still wanted it to be my creativity,” she explains.
“I’d play my mum a song and she’d say she didn’t like it so I’d get upset and then two weeks later she’d say it was a hit but by then I would have changed by mind about it! So now I don’t play any to them, or if I do they listen to it away from me!”
Well now she has a much wider audience to impress, but she’s certainly going the right way about it. Her debut album was released on 12 July and is full of summery pop music, all written by Eliza herself.
And besides doing the rounds at festivals this summer she is also planning a European tour to ‘show them my flavours’ and will be supporting Paloma Faith in November!
So there’s no doubting that, for Eliza, this is definitely a ‘very exciting time’. Catch Eliza Doolittle at Virgin Media’s V Festival on the Virgin Union Stage this Sunday.
