Crane hits bridge causing around £750,000 damage

ESSEX Police is continuing to investigate after a crane hit a bridge in Chelmsford on Tuesday causing an estimated £750,000-worth of damage.

Just after midday on Tuesday a crane mounted on a lorry hit the Wellington Bridge on the southbound carriageway of the A12 at Hatfield Peverel.

One carriageway was closed for seven hours as a result of the crash and engineers are continuing with inspections of the bridge.

A 28 year-old man from South Woodham Ferrers was arrested at the scene and has been released on Police bail pending further enquires until 23 March.
