BRENTWOOD School has a strong Fencing reputation nationally and when the Brentwood Preparatory School went to defend their Girls U11 British Schools Fencing Team Championship title recently, they didn't disappoint.
The Brentwood Preparatory Girls won overall again this year with a team consisting of Year Six pupils Jessica Love, Fleur Sumption and Bella White.
Competing against 18 teams from all over Britain the girls got off to a shaky start, fighting Ipswich High School and beating them in a close fight scoring 45 - 39.
Fencing Coach, David Taylor spoke to the team after this start to offer encouragement.
Following this the team grew in confidence and went on to beat all the other teams they faced, with a good use of distance and accurate blade work.
The final match saw Brentwood girls face a team from Guildford Girls School with Brentwood Prep winning the match by a stunning score of 45-9.
Mr Taylor said:  “The team got off to a shaky start but proved that all the hard work they have put in this year has been worth it".
Headmaster Nigel Helliwell added: “Our young fencers have been producing results for some years now and it's especially satisfying to retain our National title against so many competing schools.”
