Bosses steal Xmas

Xmas Parties

By Nicola Moyne

EVERYONE loves Christmas, and the office party is as much a part of the Yuletide festivities as turkey and presents.
However, this year the traditional office bash is under threat due to the current economic climate.
Research from leading events group The Concerto Group, has found that one in five businesses has cancelled its Christmas party this year, and half of all companies in the UK are undecided about whether to proceed.
The news has understandably caused concern among leisure companies, who estimate that if the £1billion Christmas party market is hit, jobs will have to go.
An Essex spokesman for the Concerto Group comments: “Venues, caterers, staff employers, florists, furniture suppliers, and drinks companies are all going to be affected – it even goes as far back as chicken and turkey farmers, who usually provide the meat for meals.
“Government research has found that companies which engage with, and invest in, their staff are more profitable, so it’s not really a money-saving efficiency to cancel.
“For employees, being recognised and appreciated by their managers is often more important than what they are paid,” he adds.
However, if you’re able to persuade the boss, there are plenty of fantastic party venues, and restaurants to choose from in the county this year.
Best Parties Ever, which is holding a Rio-themed event in Epping, and another Monte Carlo-themed event at Barleylands Craft Village, Billericay, offers an ideal setting for a staff do. Food, entertainment, and dancing till dawn are all included in the price tag, which starts from £34.50.

Orsett Hall in Thurrock is also hosting special Christmas parties next month, which boast a three-course dinner and entertainment from just £28.50 per head. Visit www.orsetthall.co.uk.
However, if it’s an intimate meal you’re after, why not head to Strada in Chelmsford, Billericay, or Lakeside?
Famed for its authentic Italian cuisine, the restaurant chain is offering a three-course meal from just £17.95, with delights including platters of cured Italian meats, porcini and chestnut mushroom risotto, and rich chocolate tart.

Alternatively, why not visit Frankie and Benny’s for a New York vibe? With restaurants in Chelmsford, Basildon and Romford, the chain has a set Christmas menu available from just £14.95, and diners can look forward to a traditional turkey dinner, plus sticky toffee pudding!
