A BILLERICAY woman whose two young children suffered sever chemical burns on holiday has hit out at the lack of answers received from tour operator Thomas Cook.
Susan Austin and her son’s Sam, 15, and Ben, 12 took legal action after the boys suffered burns from the hotel swimming pool after a trip to Corfu in July 2007.
Along with other Britons they stayed at the Mitsis Roda Beach Hotel and were one of 33 people who suffered ‘agonising’ rashes on their legs, arms and backs after taking a dip in the pool.
Ms Austin said: “To this day we have not received satisfactory answers or explanations. Our family holiday was completely ruined.
“We, along with many others, want to know what exactly happened with the pool and what our children have been subjected to.”
No warnings were given from staff and the pool remained open and continued to be treated with large amounts of unknown chemicals on a daily basis.
Forty two holidaymakers, 33, who suffered from chemical burning, have had claims settled from a range of tour operators.
The family’s lawyer, Jenny Brooks from travel law specialist Irwin Mitchell, said: “We hope that the lessons are learned from this incident so that others don’t have to go through the pain and upset that our clients had to endure.”
