n Students ‘shoe’ off their designs.
TEXTILE students recently put their heart and ‘sole’ into a Promotional Shoe Project as part of a coursework presentation for their BTEC National Award in Fashion and Clothing.
The teenagers from Havering Sixth Form College showed off work they had designed and created themselves in a lively presentation to college executive team members and other senior tutors and staff.
Taking a plain shoe and then redesigning it in a colourful and flamboyant way, the student’s task was to represent a department of the college with their designs.
And that’s exactly what they did! With shoes decorated with colouring pencils for the art department and keys from a piano to represent music these were certainly some shoes with status.
The finished products were then photographed to make calendars, business cards, postcards and a prospectus which could be developed by the various college departments to use for communication with parents, college partners and businesses.
Student Desiree Asomuyide, who made a bag from an old pair of cut down jeans to represent the Fashion department, said: “I really enjoyed doing the presentation and it was amazing how some of the shoes turned out. They looked really good.”
Elaine Gulliver, BTEC Award in Fashion Tutor, said: “The girls worked really hard on their designs and used them in a creative way to make very practical and useful products for many of the college subject sectors. I was very pleased with their enthusiasm and their attitude during the presentation.”
