Appeal for information after arson at family home in Brentwood

DETECTIVES have appealed for information following an arson attack on a family home in Brentwood.
A fire was started outside the front door of a house in Peartree Lane, Doddinghurst at 1.20am on 7 February.
The fire damaged the front door and porch area and also caused smoke damage to the interior of the house.
Members of the family, a couple and their 15-year-old daughter and 13-year-old disabled son, who uses a wheelchair, were woken by their smoke alarms and escaped unharmed.
Fire-fighters were called to deal with the fire which caused damage estimated at £2,000.
Investigating officer Dc Ian Krout said: “All the family was in bed when they were woken by the smoke alarms. They saw smoke coming in from under the front door and discovered the fire had been started in the porch.
“No one was injured but if the smoke alarms had not been working it could have been a different story.
“We want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious on the night of the fire or from anyone who may have seen people hanging around the area.”
Anyone with information should contact Dc Krout at Brentwood CID on 0300 333 4444.
