n Samantha gets to grips with another client.

HAVING sensitive skin can be a nightmare. I know because I suffer from eczema - a skin condition effecting 10% of us -  and I’m used to the constant dilemma of skin vs. products.

But last week I decided to conquer my fear and put my eczema-dilemma to the test by booking myself in for some well needed TLSC (tender loving skin care) at the Rayleigh Retreat.

After explaining my concerns over the phone to owner Julie Cole, she recommended I try the Spa Find Infinite Indulgence Black Mud Envelopment (70mins, £65) to hydrate and nourish my skin as well as their Natural Nourishment Double Mud Facial (75mins, £60), which is designed for delicate skins.

Offering a range of authentic mineral therapies, the Rayleigh Retreat uses products from the ‘Spa Find’ range based on mud, salt and seaweed - perfect for hydrating and moisturising dry skin, while normalising any mineral or vitamin imbalance within the body. Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive, the spa also features products from the MD Formulations range, which caters for clients with severe skin conditions.

Upon entry, I was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming the spa and therapists were. As a converted three storey Victorian house, the building had a real homely feel to it, unlike some of the more common clinical chains.

After I was taken to my treatment room, which featured a beautiful historic fireplace and modern amenities, my therapist, Samantha, explained how the Black Mud Envelopment would help skin areas that are prone to eczema. Packed with seven different minerals, the Dead Sea Mud helps to hydrate, de-stress, heal and relax the body, while providing problem areas with vitamins.

The treatment began with an exfoliating session, followed by the application of warm Dead Sea Mud, which stimulates the skin. I was then wrapped in warm towels to help the vitamins absorb, while my therapist massaged my neck and shoulders with the spas unique ‘welcoming massage’, to fully relax me.

Samantha then began my double mud facial by removing any impurities with an energizing cleanser and a toning spray to hydrate and boost my skin. She then used the Sea Sand Scrub to exfoliate the skin surface, before she applied the mud masks.

The first mud mask was part of the Renewed Radiance Hydrating Mud Facial, which is designed for delicate skin. The second is part of the Youthful You Anti-Aging Facial, and helps to firm and hydrate the skin. And, after spending two and a half hours in the spa, I have to admit my skin feels smooth, without a hint of irritation. In short, it’s the perfect TLSC treat!
